We’ve received several queries on how one can do more than just participate at WordCamp Nagpur. We’re now opening up applications for volunteering at WordCamp Nagpur, that is happening on 24th and 25th June 2017.

Join the WordCamp Nagpur organising committee and help build the next best conference in Nagpur.

WordCamp Nagpur is designed to bring like-minded people together and help you learn new things. Our conferences have several challenges around setting up WiFi, hall management, social media, registration and, more. We’re looking for volunteers to work on these exciting challenges along with the WordCamp organising team.

Further, the experience you would gain from the WordCamp Nagpur will enable you to learn advanced skills such as setting up live WordCamp Nagpur update on social media, set up networking or WiFi for challenging environments, get confidence in managing people and lot more. You would also be actively involved in troubleshooting and management during the conference and will be working closely with the WordPress Nagpur community.

Show your Development skills at Plugin Pratiyogita ( प्रतियोगिता )

Plugin Pratiyogita – प्रतियोगिता at WordCamp Nagpur is plugin competition to show off your developer skills and create a plugin that will contribute back to the community.

Plugin Pratiyogita is the desi version of plugin palooza from Orange County to the Orange City of India.

How will it work?

  • You submit an idea for eligible plugin before 20th May 2017 Extended 30th May.
  • Develop and Submit it to WordPress Repository, [if not done] make sure it is published before 10th June. You must build your own plugin!
  • We’ll have room for 10 teams to compete.
  • Shortlisted plugin teams will be informed to present their plugin at WordCamp Nagpur 2017.
  • Selected Team gets 10 minutes to present plugin to Jury on 24th June 2017.
  • Results will be announced on conference day.

Plugin Eligibility

  • Plugin published under GNU General Public License v2 or later.
  • Plugin published WordPress.org Repository.
  • Plugin published after relaunched plugin directory, Published date should be after Submission opens (6th April 2017).

Team Eligibility

  • Develop it alone or with a team, there is no limit on team size.
  • Each team member can only be in one team for this competition.
  • One of your team members has to be at WordCamp Nagpur to present your plugin.
  • There is no geographical limitation to participate in the competition.

Design WordCamp Nagpur’s Mascot! – WC Nagpur Wapuu Contest

Wapuus are the official mascots of WordCamps across the world since 2011.  Wapuus have been used by communities to showcase the event theme and local culture to the attendees. We need your help in designing the mascot for WC Nagpur.

Wapuu has become an important part of the WordCamp experience and somewhat a collector item. This your chance to contribute to one of the cutest aspects of WordCamp Nagpur and win an amazing reward pack!

Some History Behind Wapuu

Wapuu has been used by local communities as a showcase of the local culture and the inspirations behind the WordCamp they are organizing. Kazuko Kaneuchi originally created the first Wapuu in 2011 for WordPress Japan and ever since Wapuu has been used by WordCamps across the world. Just like WordPress, Wapuu is an open-source character letting anyone who wants to remix and high-resolution it the way they want. Where will we be using Wapuu

We need your ideas on how to we can creatively use your design. Want to create a life-size Wapuu? Or want to make a Wapuu booth?  Go Ahead – send us a mockup! We are also working to finalize on which merchandise are we going print Wapuu on.

These may include:

  • Tshirts
  • Mugs

Design Guidelines

Wapuu design guidelines aren’t very strict but eyes, nose, and mouth that are distinctive areas in Wapuus. Please ensure your design follows these general design guidelines.

What are we looking for in the design of Nagpur’s Wapuu:

  • Needs to showcase Nagpur’s culture (duh!)
  • Oranges are not the only thing Nagpur is known for! Come on don’t just make the Wapuu holding an orange!
  • Need to be both print and screen friendly
  • Read our inspiration blog post (to be added soon) to derive more ideas soon.

Contest Rules:

  1. Follow general Wapuu design guidelines. Share your Wapuu in our facebook group and/or tweet it out to us on Twitter with #WCNagpur
  2. The contest is not restricted to Nagpur residents.
  3. The last date of entry is 20 May 2017 4 June 2017 (extended)
  4. Winner entry will be notified by Email.
  5. Winner would be required to share original source AI/PSD/CDR files of the design (and along you might be required to tweak the design if needed for our print needs)
  6. The design(s) will be published under GNU General Public License v2 or later. It’s same as WordPress software.
  7. Please do not use any copyrighted content in your design(s)

About WordPress Community in Nagpur

Origin Story

On 11th July 2009, Nagpur had it first PHP meetup, around 31 people turned up with a variety of background.

First PHP Meetup in Nagpur

Further down the line group continued to cover various topics and activities. Topics like Various PHP Frameworks, various content management systems, Facebook Applications using PHP, Drupal 7 Release Party, WordPress Anniversary party, Git flow, Plugin development, Modules/Components developments and more.

The PHP meetups have been a great boon for the PHP community in Nagpur & has provided a great platform for PHP beginners, enthusiasts & developers to share their knowledge.

Why We forked WordPress User Group From PHP User Group

After attending First WordCamp of life, Abhishek (as an attendee) and Rohit (as a Speaker) at WordCamp Baroda 2013 realised WordPress community is not developers only community, it’s more about users. Further attending WordCamps Pune 2013, Baroda 2014, Mumbai 2014, It took us two years to understand how WordPress community works.

Current Status of WordPress Community in Nagpur

WordPress Community Nagpur has two groups, One on Facebook and one from WordPress Foundation on Meetup.com. There are 332 WPers in the Facebook group and 162 on Meetup group. Facebook group is used for discussions and helping each other, whereas Meetup group for scheduling meetup.

To make sure people could join, contribute and learn, we try to conduct two meetups every Month, Mid-month meetup for hands-on and learning and Month-end Meetup are mostly discussions over coffee.

We are Looking for Speakers and Workshop Facilitators!

We are officially accepting applications for sessions and workshops at WordCamp Nagpur.

If you love WordPress, enjoy being a part of the community then join us! WordCamps are fun, community-organized, casual events and it’s a great experience for everyone.

We’re expecting nearly 450 attendees with a wide range of experience and interests. All session will be recorded and posted to WordPress.tv.

Session Overview
Sessions will be 20 minutes long with 10 minutes of Q&A. We’re currently looking for talks related to the topics that people are expecting though other topics are welcome.

Workshop Overview
A workshop will be two hours long. We’re currently looking for workshop related to the topics that people are expecting, though other topics are welcome.

Required Qualifications
You are not expected to be a professional speaker, but you must know what you’re talking about. We’ll be selecting speakers based on how timely, relevant and useful the topic is.

Here’s the action blueprint for WordCamp Nagpur

At WordCamp Nagpur, we are planning for two days of action. Day 1 for workshops and day 2 for talks.

Day 1. Workshop day will have three tracks for users, developers, community. Around 4 workshops a track.
Day 2. Conference day will have two tracks for users/business and development. Around 8 talks each track. and a couple of panel discussions.

Learning and networking are the two core interest of peoples at any WordCamp. Before we open Speaker’s Application, We want you to tell us what are you expecting from WordCamp Nagpur.

Two days of WordCamp Nagpur is planned to have various workshops, bi-directional talks, panel discussions and experience sharing.
