Selecting the perfect venue for WordCamp Nagpur was no easy task. It required careful consideration of several key factors to ensure the event would be accessible, functional, and enjoyable for all attendees. After various venues across the city, we finally settled on the Chitnavis Centre. Here’s why:
1. Central Location
One of the top priorities was finding a venue centrally located in Nagpur. Chitnavis Centre fits this requirement perfectly, situated just 1.3 km from the Zero Mile Monument, the very heart of the city. Its location in the Civil Lines area makes it convenient for attendees coming from all parts of Nagpur.
2. Versatile Spaces
WordCamp Nagpur will feature multiple tracks and opportunities for networking, so we needed a venue with ample space. Chitnavis Centre offers a large campus of 4.42 acres, with multiple halls and open areas equipped with modern audio-visual facilities. This flexibility allows us to host various sessions, workshops, and networking events seamlessly.
3. Accessibility
It was crucial that the venue be accessible to everyone, including those with impaired mobility. Chitnavis Centre meets this requirement, offering amenities that make it easier for all participants to navigate the event.
4. Supportive Management
A supportive and cooperative venue management team was essential for the success of WordCamp Nagpur. The Chitnavis Centre, managed by the Sir Gangadharao Chitnavis Memorial Medical Research Trust, has been incredibly accommodating and helpful in ensuring that our event will run smoothly.
5. Commitment to Social Causes
Chitnavis Centre is more than just a venue. It is part of a charitable trust dedicated to human welfare, education, and cultural promotion. The revenue generated from events like ours is channelled into various social projects, making this venue choice even more meaningful.
The trust manages initiatives such as:
- Pranav – An early intervention centre for hearing-impaired children.
- Children’s Movement for Civic Awareness (CMCA) – A programme promoting democracy, citizenship values, and civic awareness among the youth.
- Manjiri – A project aimed at empowering women to contribute to India’s growth and development.
- Akshar – Free computer classes for underprivileged children, particularly those from nearby slums.
- Children’s Library, Mahal – A library offering a wide range of books in Hindi, Marathi, and English, catering to children’s educational and recreational needs.
and many more.
The venue’s lush green surroundings, quiet environment, and ample parking add to its appeal. The well-maintained buildings and thoughtful design make Chitnavis Centre an ideal location for the first WordCamp in Nagpur.
6. Well-Maintained Facilities
Chitnavis Centre is run by NGO – Sir Gangadharao Chitnavis Memorial Medical Research Trust (reg. No. E-831 dt.31.1.1973).
In conclusion, the Chitnavis Centre isn’t just a venue; it embodies the spirit of community and social responsibility that aligns perfectly with the values of WordCamp. We are excited to host our event here and look forward to welcoming you to this wonderful space.
