Finalizing amongst the entries was a tight spot. We selected one and the name for the mascot was left unannounced but shared unofficially as HaoBhau. So here we are sharing details about HaoBhau.

Nagpurkars are proud believers of brotherhood. The “bromance” of Nagpurkars is very famous as it follows the “bro code”. However, the word “bro” suffers a Nagpuri touch. The brotherhood in Nagpur is maintained by referring their friends as “bhau”; the Marathi translation for “brother”.

The local dialect of Nagpur is very special and has its dictionary. In Nagpur, the word “Hao” is a derivation of two words of Hindi and Marathi: “Haa” meaning “Yes” in Hindi and “Ho” meaning “Yes” in Marathi. The phrase “Hao Bhau” meaning “yes bro” is most commonly used in Nagpur. Thus the mascot was named “HaoBhau”.

The mascot of WordCamp Nagpur 2017 resembled people of Nagpur grabbing one of the known monuments of the city – The Zero Mile Stone, which is the centre pillar of India. HaoBhau is seen enjoying monsoon with his umbrella. Credit for designing these Wapuu goes to Mukul Chaturvedi From Buzo Media Services.
